Navigate: Top -->The Ogre's Clan -->15th Anniversary Tour -->Iron Horse Trail Day 3
The third day on the Iron Horse Trail and our last day riding as a family (this ride pretty much wiped the girls out). We started at the top of Snoqualamie pass and then Vivian, Sylvia, and I rode through the tunnel again and back (a 4.5 mile diversion). Then we headed east from the pass towards where we were going to camp that night at Lake Easton.
This was to be our longest day yet, our total trip for this day was about 20 miles for Vivian and Sylvia, 16 for Char and Liz and I had to go back and get the car so I wound up putting in about 30 miles. The trail along here was also a bit flatter so there was a bit more effort involved for Char and the kids. I was thankful it was flatter since that meant less climbing at the end of the day.
The terrain and wildlife here was noticeably different from that on the western side of the pass, most of the clouds were trapped by the mountains so the rainfall was much less here. That's not to say it was a desert, but the western side is nearly a rain forest.
While not as wet as on the Western side of the pass everything is still pretty green and there are plenty of flowers along the trail even in July. | ![]() |
